Toronto FC stuns Mexican side in Champions League opener

Toronto FC gives highly-touted Mexican side Cruz Azul a lesson in winning CONCACAF Champions League opener 2-1 at BMO Field.

This was supposed to be a rare measuring stick for Toronto FC, and indeed it was just that. But instead of a master class from Mexican side Cruz Azul, it was the home side delivering a rap across the knuckles and the shins of the visitors.

The surprise wasn’t as much the 2-1 scoreline in TFC’s favour, as it was the domination the hosts showed as underdogs against the visitors over the first 45 minutes, pressing up high aggressively and opening up a deserved two-goal margin that earned them a lusty standing ovation from the BMO Field house of 16,862.
